Fingerlakers Joint Rally

Having just returned from the York, NY Firemen's field and the Fingerlaker Rally, I thought we might touch on some highlights since 26 Pen-NY Mixers attended. With a total of 45 coaches attending, it was one of the largest turnout's for a rally we have had in several years. We had members from the Fingerlakers, Pen-NY Mixers and Niagara Frontier Travelers along with Sam and Pat Allen (Northeast Area President).

As always, there was plenty of good food, plus a scavenger hunt, and a road rally.

The highlight of the weekend was a "Grazing Dinner" at Bohn's Restaurant in Batavia to celebrate George and Millie Worden's 50th Wedding Anniversary. With over 200 attendees, many folks will not forget this rally for many years.
One highlight, among many, was a beautiful hand made quilt made by the Pen-NY Mixer members and presented by Sylvia Plaisted.
Happy Anniversary, George and Millie !!!!!

Chapter Sponsorship

An RV park in Texas has offered to sponsor our rallies and provide special offers to members visiting them. The name is OASIS RV RESORT in AMERLLO, TX. They might be worth consideration during your travels west. Below is the note they sent to us with their current rates (same as their internet site).

"Oasis RV Resort (on I-40 just west of Amarillo, TX) is a first class resort www.myrvoasis.com. I'm sure with all your activities, every once in a while your members are travelling on Interstate 40, so while they are on their way to a rally or just on their own, your members will know they have a great place to stay. PEN-NY Mixers members will receive a $20 nightly rate (A Class), $17 (C Class/5th Wheels), $15 (Trailers/B Class)! Oasis RV Resort provides all paved roads, concrete pads, 75' X 40' sites, private bathrooms, pool, spas, clubhouse and rally room, but don't believe me, check us out at www.myrvparkreviews.com .

If there is anything we can do to make your members happy along the way, let us know. At the very least they can get caught up on their laundry--its FREE!! ?"

Travel to Canada

As you may know, travel to Canada, Mexico and the Caribean now requires a passport or a Enhanced Drivers License (EDL).

At this time, New York is one of 6 states that issues such a license. Most of the documentation for the EDL can be obtained on line at http://nysdmv.com . If you go to the site, click on "Driver's Licenses......" and it will take you to a site where you can get all the forms and documentation for getting the license. Take them to the DMV. YOU MUST HAVE YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY CARD AS ONE FORM OF ID. Cost is about $35.

If your passport is less than 15 years old (it has been expired less than 5 years), you can renew your it by entering all the information on line at the State Department web site, http://travel.state.gov . By cllicking on "Apply for a Passport or Passport Card", you can fill in the forms on line, print them out and mail them. Just add the required picture. Cost is $75.

If you don't have a passport, and want to get one, you will have to go to a Post Office, Town Clerk, etc and get the forms and have them certify your identity. This will add another $25 to the $75 above.

The biggest advantage of the EDL is cost. However, you cannot fly between countries using this form of ID and it's limited to Canada, Mexico and certain Carribean countries. That may change.

Gas Prices

On the right side of our Blog, we post some links to potentially interesting sites. One of these that we have used quite a bit this year is http://www.gasbuddy.com/.

On this site, you may enter the city and state and they will report the lowest gas prices in the area.

We have had very good luck using this and just this past weekend found low priced gas in Essex Junction, VT before we headed there.

FMCA, Northeast Area Planning Meeting results

This past weekend, we visited Essex Junction, VT for the planning meeting for the Northeast Area Rally held August 12-15th in Essex Junction.

The get together is hosted by the officers of the Northeast Area where we spent time eating and finishing details for the rally. Being our first meeting, I was both pleased and impressed with how much has been accomplished since last August. All activities except two had chapters for support and most chapters seemed to be prepared to fulfill their jobs.

As in the past several years, the Pen-NY Mixers have volunteered to give out door prizes during the rally. We are still looking for volunteers to help with this. Please contact Sharon or Tom Roule (troule@aol.com, cell phone: 585-739-9074) if you would like to help. We get good parking and the work is pleasant. Northern Vermont is beautiful with not only the mountains, but many things to see.
